About Me

Hi, My name is Georges Nolan. My in game aliases are usually Sergeant Alexander or Fini.

A little about myself and my Gaming past

I live in the UK, Wales to be exact, land of obnoxious welsh speakers who insist you learn the language in school even though roughly 4 people speak Welsh. As you can probably tell I’m not very patriotic :) . I mean, don’t get me wrong, I’m not rascist or anything, but I do find it unfair that you are forced to learn welsh in class. I complain about Wales, but when we’re winning the rugby or football I always watch the matches.  I’m half French and half Welsh.

I’ve been gaming since I was roughly 8 or 9, always on the computer (I’ve never owned a console).

I started out playing Duke Nukem 3D for a few years, always using the cheats, never completing the game without them,

I then moved on to things like Solitaire and Pinball (The free games you get with Windows XP) I went off gaming after I got bored to death of these games.

I made a come back with the Call of Duty series, I’ve bought all of them to date, I stuck to the second one like superglue, completely pwning online for about 2 years. Eventually after I realised that I could be addicted to this game (not doing homework just to play it) I made the difficult descision to quit and leave a clan which I have been in for the 2 years of gaming. Ever since I have never made friends as much as I did with those guys.

After CoD 2, I drifted into the MMORPG arena with EVE Online, playing it for a good year or so, got a character to 12 million Skill points and joined several corps. The problem which always stuck in the back of my mind was that I’m not doing anything for this game, My day to day experience is boring and pointless, I’m not fighting any epic battles like all the adverts tell you. I’m ratting in a 0.0 belt with a pretty much 99% chance of safety making a few million a day. I would have to do pass out at the keyboard to be podded. Basically there was no thrill, no danger, no excitement. Now I know that many people would think overwise and blame it down to the corp I was in, but neverless I still feel that way.

I then joined the World of Warcraft bandwagon, started playing a bit before BC, levelled to 24 before the grind killed it for me. Killing boars isn’t fun. No matter what 10 Million people will tell you. I quit shortly after and only started again after the 2.3 patch. Hearing that they had reduced the grind by 40% from 20 – 60, I picked up the character again, and got to 36 before I realised that no matter how much I try I would never be a part of the game. I’ll explain, I didn’t begin from the start, I haven’t got a 70 to depend from. I’m not a real player and It always felt that way. So I quit again. Which basically brings us to now.

About a year ago after hearing the occasional article about Age of Conan, I signed up for the closed beta a few days after they opened the registration form. Everyday, I’ll admit I checked my mail for the email that would let me in. Constantly being let down, after a few months I gave up hope. I hadn’t heard a lot about the game so I forgot about it. Suddenly all the articles and news were talking about the blood and gore and tits, so I thought that I had to be a part of this :P . I kept up to date everyday on the latest news and info and started to really look forward Age of Conan. This would be my chance to join a game from the start, to be one of those “seasoned players” that everyone talks about. I preordered the game from Game.co.uk, (I want that Mammoth mount) as soon as I could, I realised that I keep up to date with all the latest news and goings on, I always have an opinion, why not start a blog primarily about the game for other people to enjoy and read?.

Conan Watch was born.
